Starting May 7, 2025, every U.S. resident must present a REAL ID compliant driver license or state ID card to board commercial flights or enter federal buildings.

If your driver license is REAL ID compliant you are able to do many things online, such as: order a replacement driver license, update your driver license address and you are allowed a one time online renewal.

Is my driver license REAL ID compliant?

REAL ID licenses and ID cards have a star in the upper right corner.

When do I renew my driver license/ID card?

You can renew your driver license/ID card up to 18 months before the expiration date by scheduling a reservation.

  • Your driver license or state ID card is valid for six or eight years, depending on your age.
  • If you are 79 years old or younger, your driver license/state ID card is valid for eight years.
  • If you are 80 years old or older, your driver license/state ID card is valid for six years.
  • A vision test is required to renew.

My driver license was stolen, how do I get a new one?

If stolen, the state will waive the fee to replace your stolen driver license/ID card if you file a police report. Please make sure you have the case number printed on a business card or official document from the law enforcement agency. To get a replacement driver license you will need to schedule a reservation.

 

Stops, Holds, and Suspensions

If you have a stop, hold or suspenion on your license it can prohibit you from renewing your driver license and/or you motor vehicle registration. Peform a FREE check to verify you don’t have any restrictions.

Can I do this online or do I need to schedule a reservation?

In-Person Service

You need to schedule a reservation for in-person service IF ANY of the following apply to you:

  • Your driver license or ID card is not REAL ID compliant.
  • You have a stop, hold or violation on your driver license.
  • You already used your one-time online renewal.
  • You changed your name.
  • You let your driver license expire.*
  • You want to update your photo.
  • You want to add or remove a designation.
  • Your driver license has the word “Temporary” on it.

*If the driver license has been expired for one year or more, the driver is required to complete the written and vision exams prior to obtaining their driver license.

Online Service

You are eligible to renew, replace or update your driver license IF ALL of the following apply to you:

  • Your driver license or ID card is REAL ID compliant.
  • You have not previously used the one-time online convenience renewal.
  • You do not have a stop, hold or other violation on your driver license.
